The Durfee Conservatory, located on the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus.
Tucked away in a hustling and bustling campus of over 25,000 students, this greenhouse complex is a sanctuary of calm and serenity. In sunny weather students sit and read in the outside gardens. In the biting cold of winter, many take a few minutes on their way to class, to warm themselves in the ‘rainforest’ room.
The Durfee Conservatory is located on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
To get to the Durfee from I-91:
Take Route 9 exit in Northhampton.
Head East on Route 9 to Amherst.
Turn left on Pleasant Street and drive through town.
Turn left at Triangle Street (3rd Traffic light). This street will then turn into North Pleasant Street. At the second light turn right, then immediately turn right again at the first street you come to, and follow signs to the University Health Center.
Look for parking on the street before the University Health Center or in the lot to your left by the Franklin Dining Commons. The Conservatory is directly across from the University Health Center, which is located on your right
To get to the Durfee from I-90 (The Mass Pike):
Take the Palmer exit off of the Pike, and follow the signs to Amherst and UMass. You will follow 181 to 202 North to Route 9 West. When you reach Amherst, turn right onto Pleasant Street and follow the instructions as above from the fourth line.
